Audi A6 Sportback e-tron

How it looks when you see on the street: The Audi A6 Sportback e-tron is a four-door design guided by performance. What we mean by that is that Audi engineers tweaked the exterior sedan to maximize aerodynamics, range and responsiveness. The result is a fine, slinky sedan that goes and goes on electric miles, but it’s also a design that lacks some of the panache and pizazz of traditional Audi sports cars. Still, in a world where SUVs usurped the roads from SUVs, the A6 Sportback E-Tron still has plenty of attributes for the all-around EV shopper seeking a spirited sedan.

How it makes you feel when you get in: For years Audi interiors set the industry bar for the industry. While the A6 etron has plenty of familiar modern design cues and standard safety features like lane departure warning, it’s not quite the standard bearer of style that made the brand stand out back when Quattro was quintessential cool for blending minimalism and modernity. We had a car outfitted with the Prestige Package, which added in adaptive air suspension and a proper Bang & Olufsen sound system. The front headrest speakers are a clever addition for managing sound and taking phone calls in close range. The screens projected information on a 11.9-inch digital gauge cluster and the 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment screen and also included ChatGPT powered AI assistant. We are always fans of a standard panoramic glass roof.

How it drives: The range is where this car shines – our test car was capable of 370 electric miles, and if we had the Ultra package on board, it would have produced up to 392 electric miles. The 0-to-60-mile hour time was zippy – clocking in at 4.3 seconds. The driving experience was rewarding – steering is responsive and the set up feels planted and nimble on the road. We drove a rear-wheel model, but all-wheel drive is also available making this a solid choice for all season. To up performance power,  go for the S6 Sportback E-tron dual-motor Quattro that makes 543 horsepower.Regenerative braking adds to efficiency.

Space for people and things: Backseats are adult friendly. There’s also a small frunk.

What to compare it to: BMW i4, Porsche Taycan, Lucid Air, Tesla Model S.

How much does it cost: The base price for the Audi A6 E-Tron is $67,195. Our test vehicle that included the Premium Package was $75,240.
