Toyota Grand Highlander

How it looks when you see on the street: The Toyota Grand Highlander has the markings of a modern three-row SUV: Big, bodacious, and family friendly.

How it makes you feel when you get in: Seating in both front row and second row cabin chairs are cozy. We had the optional 12.3-inch touchscreen. (An 8-inch screen is standard.) The infotainment is keeping up with the industry standard and had quality voice controls. We found road noise a little distracting.

How it drives: The big Grand Highlander glides over potholes and crevices on rough winter surfaces. It’s not a speedster, but not underpowered, and suited for running around town. It earns 24 mpg combined, which is impressive for this sizeable and weighty vehicle.

Space for people and things: Third row is suited for adulting – a real deal third row. Better storage than its predecessor – making the most of added dimensions.

How much does it cost: $44,405 for the base XLE, $49k for the limited and Platinum is $54k. Limited trim offers up the 11-speaker JBL audio system

What to compare it to: Kia Telluride and Honda Pilot
