Le Car Co-Founders

Le Car Co-Founders

We help you learn about the vehicles best suited to your unique wants and needs through our concierge service accessible via our one-on-one concierge calls and our iOS app. We provide advice and commentary on how to buy, travel, and live with your vehicle.

We explore the evolving relationship people have with cars and other forms of transportation. We explain how cars are becoming more sustainable, connected, and automated, in the ways that matter to you.

We act as the car-nerdy friend or family member that you ask for reassurance. We can’t guarantee that you’ll love your car, your car dealer, or your mechanic. We can support a better, clear-cut decision making process based on our experience and integrity.

We have spent years obsessing over our ethics. We know that fairness matters in the long run. Our recommendations are based on our reporting and observations.

Carmakers do not buy Le Car personalized recommendations. Read the Le Car Letter and follow along with our adventures.

OUR HISTORY

Tamara Warren

Tamara Warren

Tamara grew up in a Motor City family. Her dad brought home test cars as part of his engineering job. Tamara’s great uncle was a race car driver in the 1930s. As a kid she regularly attended auto-related functions ranging from motorsports events to a car commercial taping featuring Aretha Franklin on the mic. Like many people from the Detroit area, Tamara knew hundreds of people who worked in the auto industry. Growing up, Tamara was somewhat anti-car. In fact, she had questions about what went wrong in the auto industry. She was passionate about all things culture and Detroit. After working for a prominent Detroit techno label she pursued music journalism, reporting for the Detroit Free Press and many international magazines.

All roads led back to cars, when she took an internship at AutoWeek Magazine in 2002.  She relied on her dad to translate engineering jargon. Soon, she learned how to test drive cars and write about all sorts of vehicles. She gained a new appreciation for the complexity of the industry and the way cars impacted people and shaped the environment.

She’s written about cars for The New York Times, Car and Driver, Road and Track, Edmunds, Vibe, DUB, and Fortune Magazine. She served as transportation editor at The Verge and co-hosted a weekly live show Cheddar Rides. She’s appeared on ABC, CNBC, PBS and the History Channel and the documentary feature Autonomy, produced by Car and Driver and Malcolm Gladwell. She served as U.S. Director of the World Car Awards and as a juror. She’s test driven well over 1500 cars.

Her co-founder and mother Henriette Warren is a licensed social worker and served as COO at a community mental health center for two decades.
