Cadillac CT5

How it looks when you see on the street: Cadillac still makes cars — not the big boxy sedans of yesteryear, but svelte lean midsize luxury sedans. The CT5 is a fresh-faced four door sedan that shows a new direction for the classic American brand.

How it makes you feel when you get in: Cadillac is on a quest to be known for tech and added a long list of features to support this persona in vehicles. It’s equipped with Super Cruise hands-free driver assistant system that takes the cognitive load off the driver in cruising mode. It lacks some of the airy cabin space of some rivals which gives the cabin a more snug feeling.

How it drives: It’s got a nimble feeling, responsible steering and the gears shift evenly with the paddle shifters.

Space for people and things: CT5 has slim proportions — it suits city space, but does not have a large trunk and back seats are best for smaller passengers.

How much does it cost: It starts at $39,590 for the Luxury trim. The Premium Luxury starts at $44,000, Sport is $45,000, V is $52,000 and the Black Wing is $93,000.

What to compare it to: Genesis G80, BMW 5 Series and Audi A6.
