Mitsubishi Outlander

The 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander.

How it looks when you see on the street: It’s hard to make a dent in the sea of compact SUVs, but the Outlander manages to stand out with a sharp lines and big curves on its exterior in a more aerodynamic 2025 update. The front end is three-dimensional and distinct from pretty much anything else out in this massive segment — except for its cross-company cousin Nissan Rogue. We spent a week tooling around the tri-state area in the 2026 SEL trim.

How it makes you feel when you get in: The snazzy interior uses better quality materials than previous generations. Spruced up details include a leather wrapped wheel and an aluminum-coated shifter. Our Premium Package added in a 12-speaker Yamaha sound system, and a 10.8-inch head up display.Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. It’s equipped with safety features such as blind-spot warning, rear auto emergency braking, lane departure warning, an Pilot assist supported driving.

How it drives: The Outlander is a solid performer and competent for its primary use— getting around town. Our tester had a 1.5 4-liter turbo engine. It’s an efficient gasoline powered model that clocks in at 27 miles per gallon on average. It’s also available as a plug-in hybrid.

Space for people and things: The cabin is spacious. The backseat is roomy, but the third row is more suited toward little kids than full-size adults. For this size, a third seat is rare, so a “nice to have” in a pinch.

What should you compare it to:Honda CRV or the Mazda CX-5.

How much does it cost: We drove a fully loaded modeled with accoutrements, such as heated back seats, and a sticker price of $47,235.
