BMW M5
How it looks when you see it on the street: The BMW M5 look like the brawny baller it is. The name is sentimental for 80s babies – the original was introduced in 1984 as a souped-up 5 Series model. M5 is now in its seventh generation and makes it first escapade as a plug-in hybrid.
How it makes you feel when you get in: A sports sedan that doesn’t cut corners on cabin built for lounging. We like the airiness of the panoramic sunroof and the boom of the Bowers & Wilkins sound system. Lots of stuff to maneuver in the big screen idrive system, which takes some getting used to if you’re into basic buttons.
How it drives: The raucous engine is 4.4-liter twin-power turbo V8 that makes 577 horsepower that gets even more spirited when combine with battery power up to 717 horsepower – yikes! With substantial carbon ceramic brakes it’s a snap to manage all that weight and power in an all-wheel drive outfit. This generation of M5 is a plug-in hybrid that earns 50 mile per gallon on 42 electric miles and 14 miles per gallon on gas alone. It’s very fast, speeding from 0 to 60 miles per hour in a blink-fast look later 3 seconds. Driving styles can be altered from sport to comfort settings to play around with more sport handling.
Space for people and things: A generous backseat well suited for passengers or napping.
What should you compare it to: Porsche Panamera, Audi RS7, Cadillac CTS-5 Blackwing.
How much does it cost: The base price for an M5 is $119,500. Our car included those extra carbon ceramic brakes, the carbon package, the executive package with bells like heated and seats and glowing kidney grill for $146,225.
