Kia Soul GT-Line

How it looks when you see on the street: The Soul isn’t afraid to be a standout. It’s not as bold of a design as the cube of its early model years, but it’s still a bit distinct in a popular category favoring a boxy shape over the more mundane curves we see in the slew of small SUVs on the road today.

How it makes you feel when you get in: Like an old fashioned video game, and we don’t mean this in a bad way. The Soul taps into a retro vibe, even with modern gadgetry. Available options include a wireless charging, ambient lighting, a head-up display, and heated seat and steering wheel. Most models have a 10.3-inch screen and offer standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

How it drives: Its a pleasant ride in a gasoline-powered engine that earns 30 miles per gallon. The GT Line comes standard with safety features including blind-spot monitoring, automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and rear-cross-traffic alert.

Space for people and things: The cubist proportions maximize the most for a roomy interior in a small SUV. Back seats don’t fold totally flat, so check out storage that will be necessary.

How much does it cost: The base price is about $24,000 to $27,220, with the added GT-Line package that includes smart cruise control and a Harman/Kardon Premium Audio System. The modern accoutrements still come in a total package that’s less than $30k, and noteable.
