Chevrolet Trailblazer

HOW IT LOOKS WHEN YOU SEE IT ON THE STREET: The Chevy brand has entered a new phase in it design ouevre. Its a bit whimsical. Those curves translate into a playful physique that makes an affordable ride stand out from the banal.

How it makes you feel when you get in: It’s impressive that so much tech prices out at under $30k in a user friendly package. Wireless charging and a healthy use of interior lighting give the Trailblazer a fresh feeling. While it doesn’t have a unique nav system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard for smart phone users.

How it drives: The turbocharged 137-horsepower 1.2-liter engine delivers on a self assured family style vibe behind the wheel, especially when you opt for the all-wheel drive model we tested. We’re happy with the solid 29 mpg fuel economy our ride delivered.

Space for people and things: Backseat bench seats are plenty for a party of five. GM designers spend a lot of time noodling with configurations and the result is an interior that maximizes square footage in a small SUV.

What should you compare it to: Kia Seltos, Hyundai Kona, and Mazda CX-30.

How much is it: The base model is priced to be affordable at $23,000, which gets you the bare necessities. The Trailblazer starts at $27,400 for the all-wheel drive model. We added on the technology package for a rear vision camera, a Bose 7-speaker system and a better infotainment experience.
