Cadillac XT6

HOW IT LOOKS WHEN YOU SEE IT ON THE STREET: Cadillac may be best known for its full-size Escalade. But the Handsome XT6 takes a cue from its bigger predecessor making three-rows in a snug package.

How it makes you feel when you get in: At ease. The XT6 has a quiet cabin and suave sensibility. Seats are roomy and the UX is simple to operate. Its a Cadillac so it makes sense to lace it up with bells and whistle such as ventilated seats.

How it drives: The news here is the option for Super Cruise — the hands-free driving system that’s turning up on more General Motors vehicles. It earns 21 miles per gallon — a modest feat for a vehicle of this size powered by gasoline. Handling is more than competent and the ride is responsive with little roll.

Space for people and things: The XT6 has three roomy rows, but life is about compromises, and the rear cargo space is not ample. When hauling stuff and not people, the auto folding seats are accommodating for working around the space, especially if customers opt for cabin chairs.

What should you compare it to: It’s a crowded category — a few top contenders include the Audi Q7, Acura MDX, Lincoln Aviator.

How much is it: The XT6 starts at $60k. Our test vehicle was the Sport All-wheel-drive model and was priced at $75,515. Standard Performance and Luxury features include frills such as Brembo brakes, better UX and 14-speaker Bose stereo system. Our tester also had the Platinum Package (fancy French stitched leather!) and Night Vision as options.
