BMW iX

How it looks when you see on the street: The BMW i brand has come along way as it makes it first all-electric SUV entrant with the iX, continues to impress. It’s a heavy, formidable SUV despite being powered by electric motors that jazzes up the world of electric SUVs and shares much in common with the midsize BMW X5. Its a good sport with a lot to like over the miles.

How it makes you feel when you get in: The iX interior is gorgeous, and has a cool, living room vibe that is inviting for long road trips. The crystal iDrive control knob is an eye catcher. The panoramic sunroof allows light to spill in, and also deflects direct rays with electrochromic shading. The seats have their own speakers to pipe in sounds from the standard 18-speaker Harman/Kardon stereo system is standard or optional 30-speaker Bowers & Wilkins, which is symphonic. The textile seat option gives leather a run for the money. The infotainment system has been upgraded to the iDrive 8.5 system.

How it drives: BMW has put a lot of thought into maximizing the EV driving experience — and its quite fun to drive, even around corners. There are variations on regenerative braking that control how car uses braking to regain some power. It employs MY Modes for driving style: Personal, Sport and Efficient for driver feedback. Range spans from 305 to 320 miles — a respectable amount of miles. The M60 trim offers even more performances, but detract from range, ending up with an EPA rating of 275 miles of range. We drove the xDrive 50 model on a summer Northeast road trip in high heat and didn’t seem much fall off on the range despite constant A/C.

Space for people and things. The iX has a roomy interior and trunk, but unlike many EVs, iX doesn't have a front trunk, or frunk.

What makes it stand out: It recasts the electric SUV category, and we are here for the new additions.

How much does it cost: It spans quite a range starting at $84,195 but with options like premium, sport and Bowers & Wilkins bumps up pricing to $104,020.
