Bentley Boy: A Mother and Son Trip

Editor’s Note:

When we picked up the dragon red 2021 Bentley Flying Spur V8, it felt like an occasion. It was the first time I’ve taken a trip with my son, when he was able to sit next to me in the passenger seat. It felt like a crossing point, another symbol of his looming adulthood from the backseat forward. At 12 years old and well over the 5 ft 5 mark, he was old enough to safely ride next me up front. That day he was really into the Digable Planets and had “I’m Cool Like That” playing on repeat.

Beams of light flowed through the Bentley windshield as the frost thawed around us. I glanced to my right and there he was, his maturing profile almost even to mine, looking relaxed and perfectly at home in the buttery leather interior, playing DJ. Lucky kid.

My son has always had an appreciation for fine things, not that this is a normal sort of thing for him, to go on an overnight trip with mom. It’s a strange sort of access he’s observed, one that’s often tied to some kind of “work” occasion embarked on by his parents. Here is his first front seat review of the Bentley Flying Spur V8.

My mother and I took a trip upstate New York to stay in a hotel and have a fun weekend. Bentley made it possible for us to go and lent us a car. I have ridden in many cars before and the 2021 Bentley Flying Spur V8 was and is to this day one of my favorites.

This car has many features that are admirable so I will start from the top of the list. The infotainment system this car provides is strong and trustworthy. The 12.3 inch screen the car provides is large enough for the driver to be able to see the directions clearly and efficiently. For my mother and I, it was good that the navigation system was accurate enough for us to find our way through the winding and bending roads of upstate New York. I really like the way that Bentley built their entire system for this car and would be thrilled to see it again in the future.

We took this trip in spring, and while the season was getting warmer, the weather was still leaning on the cold side. This car felt cozy and comfortable to be in. It felt like hot chocolate on Christmas Eve. It just felt right for what it was being used for, like when a puzzle piece finds its perfect place. It almost felt like it was meant for that purpose. To be a tool you use, that can also in a sense be a companion. The seats made everything relaxed and slowed down and fit into the genre of the fancy car. The way you could drive through upstate New York or New York City and have the same mindset about driving shows that the car can be used as a reliable piece of transportation.

My family usually has a lot of stuff in the car at one time. We go to the beach, baseball games, art shows, and day trips. The Bentley Flying Spur supports a family like us because of the space of the trunk. We can fit our stuff in the trunk so we can take things to the many things we do in a day. My family is the type that usually rushes to certain things and it is good to be able to throw our things in the back without thinking twice rather than carefully cultivated the things we have to put in the trunk. That way we can save time and get to our destination faster.

While we were driving we turned on some music. As soon as we turned it on, we felt cool. The music surrounded us, but not in a way where it was driving it’s way into our forehead, but so we could listen to the vibrations clearly and smoothly. While we listened to the music I wanted to turn on more and more while we were driving. On the way to the hotel we listened to the music that fit the vibe. Both of us were in good spirits so we listened to upbeat music that made us want to dance. The speakers in the car made it almost seem like they had possessive super powers to take control over our ears.

While we were driving I couldn’t help but notice that we were not hopping up and down over the bumps on the road. It was almost like the car was embracing the bumps so it could stay smooth rather than hopping over them. This was really nice because when you are hopping over consistent bumps in a car it can make you feel car sick. So with the smooth riding I was able to stay relaxed and have solid conversations with my mother.

Now as I know despite all of the things I just said, the car has one major problem. The price. It costs $278,000. For most people this car is not affordable so I think you should not buy it unless you can easily afford it. There are cars that you can buy instead that have a lower price. But if you can afford this vehicle I would 100% recommend this for you.

The Bentley Flying Spur V8 made my mother and I feel comfortable and soothed on our way to the hotel we were staying in. We continued to drive it throughout the town and used it to our advantage. We drove and felt cool and drove with swagger knowing that we were in a car where we felt comfortable. Thank you Bentley for giving us the car we were able to drive throughout upstate New York and New York City.
