A Teenage Take on An Electrified Miami Roadtrip in the Volvo XC40 Recharge

The car industry is revolutionizing itself into an electric automobile industry.

My family and I were in Miami for spring break, and we decided to go to a New York Mets spring training game in the 2022 Volvo XC40 Recharge. The stadium was in Port St. Lucie, which was about two hours from our hotel in Miami Beach.

While we drove towards Port St. Lucie, we encountered some problems with the XC-40 recharging ports. We tried to charge it at our friend’s house, who lives near the stadium, but it only went up 1% in almost 2 hours. We went to the game with worries that the car would run out of electricity to drive it back to Miami. Luckily we found an Electrify America supercharger after attending the Mets vs. Astros game, where the Mets won 2-0. Jacob Degrom threw some lights out innings before being taken out.

The Electrify America stations can charge your car fully in a much shorter amount of time than a normal plug-in charger. It took us only about 45 minutes to get it up to 85%, which was enough to make it all the way back to Miami, which was about 125 miles away. So when we found one of the superchargers, it was pretty convenient for us, but there were barely any high speed chargers in Miami Beach. This could be the only problem with this car, even though Volvo cannot fix it, but only wait for it to be fixed for them over time. I personally think that this problem will be solved by private investors that are willing to focus on the EV industry and the new electronic society that is currently growing bigger, and bigger.

As my family and I drove around Miami, Florida in the Volvo XC40 Recharge, we noticed some of the changes that have been positive in car innovation and the downsides of those advancements. Some of the upsides of the XC40 Recharge, was the way the car actually drove. It embraced the road to a capacity where the car felt comfortable at all times, no matter the speed you were moving at. The technology wasn’t too hard to navigate which led to a relaxing drive. The car was spacious inside, while slender on the outer portion. The braking system was very strong which is an increasing strength in the car industry today. Also, for an always busy family of four, as my family is, the trunk held many things and wasn’t delicate so you could put equipment or toys in the back without worrying about the car itself.

This car overall is a beautiful car except for one faulty problem. The car industry is revolutionizing itself into an electric automobile industry. While this is happening the electric car companies are moving forward with supreme urgency. While this is happening, everywhere around the world charging companies are struggling to keep up with the car industry’s electric car production. Tesla sold roughly 930,000 electric vehicles in 2021 alone, but it uses its own separate charging network, according to insideevs.com.  With all of these cars being produced into the world, there needs to be places to charge these vehicles that are accessible to everyone who owns an EV(electric vehicle). So while more EVs are being sold everyday, the charging stations around the world are not strong enough, nor are there enough of them to make the electric car industry an adequate option (yet). The electric vehicles around the world are meeting and exceeding expectations, while the charging stations are lagging behind. Despite this problem, which cannot be handled by Volvo alone, the XC40 Recharge is an extraordinary vehicle that could produce a mighty future in the electric car industry.
